Multicamera Live Production
Broadcast-quality Ultra HD camera small enough for anywhere
The small size and completely open design of the Micro Studio Camera 4K make it perfect for any live multi-camera production! The camera is practically invisible and can be hidden almost anywhere on set, giving you the ability to get more angles than ever before, so you can create a much more interesting show. You can even hide it on stage to get incredible shots of live performances or, because the camera is so small, you can safely use it to fly over the audience during sporting events. It can also be used in the studio by equipping it with a professional broadcast lens and Blackmagic Video Assist for monitoring.
Revolutionary Design
The world’s most equipped Ultra HD studio camera
The body of the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K is designed with a super-strong magnesium alloy core that’s not much bigger than the lens mount itself! You can use affordable, high-performance MFT lenses or add a B4 adapter to work with traditional broadcast lenses. The Micro Studio Camera’s SDI program input accepts commands via the SDI connection of any ATEM switcher, so you get remote control of camera settings, color balance, black level, gamma, lens focus, iris, zoom control and much more. The expansion port includes outputs for PTZ and B4 lens control, so you can get remote control of the camera head and broadcast lenses, all via a single SDI connection.
Flexible Expansion Port
Fully customizable remote control of your cameras
The Micro Studio Camera is perfect for remote use, as it includes an expansion port with multiple control connections such as a PTZ serial output connection, so you can use motorized heads, B4 lens data link outputs for broadcast lens control and you can even create custom control solutions for the camera using the S.Bus input. The expansion connector uses a common DB-HD15 connector, so you can easily create your own cables or use the included expansion cable. The expansion port also includes a DC power supply input, LANC and sync input.
Ultra HD Image Sensor
The true Ultra HD sensor with high resolution and broadcast quality
The Micro Studio Camera 4K includes a stunning broadcast-quality Ultra HD sensor for excellent sharpness and more refined textures. Ultra HD is even more important when you’re working in HD, as the sensor’s extra resolution completely eliminates any color loss from the sensor’s Bayer pattern altogether, so you get HD RGB colors with a full bandwidth and superior sub-pixel smoothing for incredible fine image detail. In addition, the Micro Studio Camera 4K has a 6G-SDI connection, so it works at up to 30 frames per second in Ultra HD and can also be switched to 3G-SDI or HD-SDI, being able to operate at up to 1080p60. Whether you’re working in HD or Ultra HD, the Micro Studio Camera 4K can handle both with ease.
Micro Four Thirds Lens Fit
Use a variety of MFT lenses or lens adapters
MFT active photo lenses have been developed to be small, lightweight and produce super-sharp images at a much higher resolution than traditional video lenses, making them perfect for Ultra HD. They can be controlled remotely using the SDI feed from your ATEM switcher’s program return or from the expansion port on the camera. You can even add a plug-in adapter to use your collection of B4 broadcast lenses or even feature-style PL lenses.

The Micro Studio Camera 4K includes a large HDMI connector for local video monitoring, so you can add a monitor to the camera or quickly connect to a local monitor when positioning a remote camera or changing camera menus. There is a mini BNC connector for the camera’s main SDI output and a mini BNC connector for the camera’s program input, which can be used to provide synchronization, control the camera’s CCU settings, return intercom audio and signal status. There is a 3.5 mm microphone input for external microphones and a 3.5 mm headphone socket that supports iPhone-compatible microphones, so you can use it for intercom.
Remote Camera Control
Control your cameras from your ATEM switcher!
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K works with standard SDI camera control protocols. In other words, you can connect the program feed of any ATEM switcher model to the camera’s SDI input and remotely control any setting on the camera, correct colors or even change focus, iris and zoom on supported lenses. Traditionally, broadcast cameras offer a basic CCU-style control for color balance, but the Micro Studio Camera 4K includes a full DaVinci primary color corrector, so you get much more than simple CCU controls, as you can also do full color grading in the camera. Now the technical director can refine the settings and match the looks of the cameras quickly.
Blackmagic3G-SDI Shield for Arduino
Create customized solutions for your camera!
The Blackmagic 3G-SDI Shield for Arduino is an Arduino expansion board or “shield” that enables the development of customized control solutions for Blackmagic Design cameras. The UNO boards available from Arduino, Adafruit, Sparkfun, Freetronics and Seeed studio are popular low-cost open source microcontroller platforms used by developers and enthusiasts. The Blackmagic 3G-SDI Shield for Arduino plugs into these platforms, providing compatibility for inserting control commands into any 3G-SDI link to the camera. This means that all Blackmagic Studio Cameras and URSA Mini can now be controlled remotely via Arduino code and you can develop and create your own customized professional automation or camera control solutions.
Quick Camera Adjustments
Quick access to the most important settings
The row of buttons integrated into the front of the camera offers quick and easy access to the power button, menu navigation and settings. As they are on the front, the buttons are always accessible, even with the camera installed on rigs in tight locations. Simply connect the camera to any HDMI display, such as a TV or the portable Blackmagic Video Assist, and you can view its menus and change any of the camera’s settings with ease. You can also use the menus to configure the camera and then let the switcher take over the camera via the SDI program output.

Audio Input
Excellent sound quality
Use high-quality integrated microphones or external microphones
The built-in stereo microphones have been developed for high-quality sound and include a mechanical design that helps reduce unwanted wind noise, so you get exceptional audio quality. When you need superior sound quality in windy outdoor conditions, such as at sporting events, you can connect an external microphone with a wind baffle to capture clean sound! The camera instantly switches to the external microphone when one is connected, and can work with both line and microphone levels. Whether with integrated or external microphones, the audio is embedded in the SDI video output, so you get perfect audio and video synchronization!
Integrated intercommunication
Two-way communication with the whole team!
The Micro Studio Camera 4K includes an iPhone-style headphone socket with microphone so you get fully supported intercommunication. You can also use standard noise-canceling headphones, such as those offered by Bose, Sennheiser and others, to hear the technical director without distractions from the audience. As the camera has an SDI connection to the switcher and an SDI connection from the switcher, the intercom audio is embedded in channels 15 and 16 of the SDI signal, so you get two-way communication. If you’re working with fixed cameras, the intercom makes it easy to move from one camera to another and you can connect your headset to communicate with the rest of the team and get the best angles and frames.
External or battery power supply
Use D Cou power supplies with removable batteries
The camera includes a 12 V to 30 V DC power input so you can power it using any standard power supply or even a simple charger. There is a standard battery receptacle compatible with Canon’s LP-E6s on the back of the camera, allowing you to add a battery for a local backup power supply in case the power supply accidentally disconnects during a critical live broadcast. The power input is located on the expansion port, so you can simply connect the power supply to the multi-connector cable or you can customize a cable to get multiple camera connections over long distances, all with the wiring of a single cable.
