Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter
Studio Fiber Converter
Blackmagic Camera and Studio Fiber Converters
Distribute and power your cameras up to 2 km away using an open-standard SMPTE fiber cable!
Studio Fiber Converter
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter convert industry-standard television connections for video, audio, power, intercom and signaling into a single SMPTE fiber optic cable. Cameras can thus be positioned up to 2 km away from a studio or mobile broadcast unit using just one practical and durable cable. The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter also adds common broadcast studio camera controls to the rear of the camera, plus additional connections so you can use it with the intercom systems and switchers you already have. Blackmagic Fiber Converters include 12G-SDI and are designed to work with all HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. Now you can turn professional cameras, such as the URSA Broadcast and URSA Mini, into fully specialized studio cameras with all the features you need for high-end work!
Position Your Cameras Anywhere
Cameras that get much closer to the action!
Whether you’re working in a studio or outdoors in a large sports facility, it’s usually necessary for cameras to be positioned far away from each other. Although SDI connections are common, their limited range makes them difficult to use over long distances. Traditionally, you would need to run multiple cables and expensive extenders for power, intercom, signaling, video and audio. In other words, the configuration becomes incredibly complex and the chances of a technical problem increase. This problem can now be solved by converting all essential connections and power via a single, practical SMPTE fiber cable capable of operating over long distances. This means that cameras can be positioned anywhere and reconnected to mobile transmission units stationed outside the facility or to a central control room in a studio. Best of all, the fiber follows the SMPTE television industry standard, so you can use cables and connection points that can be easily found. Because Blackmagic fiber converters are affordable, traditional broadcasters, novice webcasters, AV producers, places of worship and educators can all use the same high-level broadcast technology!
SMPTE Fiber for Industrial Power and Safety
Integrated multi-layer risk analysis cuts power to eliminate the hazard instantly
Blackmagic fiber converters work with hybrid fiber optic electrical cables in the SMPTE 311M standard with SMPTE 304 standard connectors at each end. These cables include two-way fiber, data and power pairs, with a central strength member that ensures the necessary strength for continuous use. Once connected, the Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter performs safety checks and starts up, supplying 200 volts of power, the industry standard, through the SMPTE cable to the camera and accessories. So you can install cameras in remote locations without having to worry about power outages over long distances. Both the Studio and Camera converter models have dedicated controllers at each end that continuously monitor the power status. The converters communicate with each other to ensure that a stable optical signal is present and that the power supply is operating within parameters that are considered safe. If faults or an earth leak are detected, the power supply is switched off instantly to eliminate any danger to the team.
Add Studio Camera Controls
Turn broadcast cameras into specialized studio cameras
Studio cameras are usually operated from the back, but broadcast cameras have controls on their sides. To solve this problem, the Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter adds SMPTE fiber support with a variety of features and controls to the back of your camera, turning it into a professional studio camera. You get separate 5-pin broadcast standard connections for intercommunication, 3 video return feeds, 2 additional audio inputs, connections for PTZ and trackers, plus additional DC and D-tap outputs to power accessories. With all these additional controls attached to the back of the camera, you can operate it as if it were a conventional studio camera!
10G Ethernet for IP Video
Super-fast, low-latency ethernet connection for video, sound and control!
will be open. In other words, all your video feeds and returns are based on IP video using encoding and decoding. The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and the Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter use IP video because the SMPTE fiber connection is a 10G Ethernet link that delivers lossless 10-bit video in broadcast quality. All other connections, such as intercom, signaling and camera and lens control, are also converted to low-latency IP, so you get incredibly reliable performance and superior quality. With the use of IP video, Blackmagic fiber converters are future-proof and ready for customization using high-speed ethernet infrastructure!
Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter fits on the back of your URSA Mini or URSA Broadcast camera. As well as converting all audio, video, camera control and intercom via fiber, it also adds professional studio camera controls to the back of your camera. You can control return feeds, dual intercom controls with program audio mixing capability, recordings, focus and iris adjustments, connectors for headsets, audio and much more. The Camera Converter model also includes a VLock mounting adapter plate on the top for fitting professional accessories, such as a Blackmagic Studio Viewfinder. The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter has connections for your Ultra HD camera feed, 3 HD return feeds, full remote camera control, PTZ, multiple channels for intercom, signaling and much more!
Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter
The Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter is used at the other end of your camera chain in the studio or mobile outside broadcast unit. It reconverts the signal from remote cameras to television industry standard connections that can be used with your live production switchers, sound mixers and intercom interfaces. It includes a high-capacity power supply to control the cable, providing enough power for your camera and any accessories that may be added. The Studio Fiber Converter model includes connections for signaling, two dual intercom channels for industry-standard third-party intercom systems and even a backup channel for engineers in case the fiber goes down. You get a main camera feed in Ultra HD, plus three return feeds in HD with full camera remote control, PTZ, tracker for intercom and ethernet, all via a single SMPTE fiber cable. In addition, there is a large 5-inch LCD screen next to the SMPTE fiber connection on the front panel for monitoring signals from the remote camera. This makes it easy to interconnect and check the remote camera’s capabilities!
Dual Channel Intercom
Two dual-channel intercoms with backup!
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter models offer two connections for dual digital intercom channels that are compatible with dedicated professional 5-pin XLR headsets. The Camera Converter model even has handy controls for mixing the program’s return audio into your intercom headset so you can adjust the volume as needed when communicating with the rest of the team. Intercoms can be used for both production and maintenance. What’s more, there’s a backup channel available for fault correction in case the fiber connection goes down. This backup intercom channel is switched automatically and uses the data pair from the SMPTE fiber cable if the fiber is down. The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter also includes a standard 10-pin connection for intercom tracking, which is ideal when both headset connections are in use and an additional connection needs to be fed to the crane operator.
