No other company in the world has more experience in film scanning than Cintel. And now this know-how has been combined with cutting-edge technology to produce the Cintel Scanner! Designed with an architectural aesthetic, the Cintel Scanner is so slim that it can even be wall-mounted! It includes redesigned digital servos, a high-intensity diffuse light source and an advanced imaging system, so you get real-time HDR scanning of 35mm and 16mm film at up to 30 fps in Ultra HD resolution! With the Cintel Scanner, you can use film for post-production or free up millions of hours of film-based content for digitization into Ultra HD master files for streaming and online distribution!
With consumers buying more and more large-screen Ultra HD televisions these days, the demand for excellent quality Ultra HD content has never been higher. Over the last 100 years, studios have generated millions of hours of content on film, and now it’s stored in vaults all over the world! All of these 35mm films have 4K resolution, which makes converting older film libraries the cheapest and fastest way to deliver Ultra HD content to consumers! The Cintel Scanner digitizes 35 mm negative and positive film to Ultra HD in fantastic quality, making available the extra resolution of 35 mm film that no one has been able to see until now! There’s no easier way to generate Ultra HD feature films and television programs for customers to watch on their new big-screen TVs!
There’s nothing more cinematic than film! The look of a well-shot 35mm film is unmistakable and exactly what cinematic digital cameras are trying to emulate. When you shoot on film, you’re not stuck with a single look because you can choose from a variety of photographic films that completely change the look of your images. Even today, with the most incredible digital film cameras available, some of Hollywood’s greatest filmmakers still prefer to shoot on 35mm film, not only for its sharpness, dynamic range and colorimetry, but above all for the classic cinematic creative style. Unfortunately, in the past, the cost of post-production involving film was high. But now, the Cintel Scanner eliminates this high cost, as it includes a complete low-maintenance design that you can install and operate yourself!
The Cintel Scanner integrates the most advanced Image Mill processing technology. This means you’ll always have effective optical stabilization technology available, making the Cintel Scanner the perfect choice for historical collections conversions and restoration projects. The Cintel’s super narrow footprint allows it to be installed on a table or even on the wall. There are even multiple accessory mounting threads for adding audio capture equipment or edge numbering readers. Now you can buy your own scanner so you don’t have to transfer your precious films from one place to another. With the Cintel Scanner, you can produce stabilized files ready for digital restoration and mastering.
The 35mm film has a huge dynamic range and native 4K resolution. The Cintel Scanner 2 features a new 35mm slide plate, with an optional 16mm projection window purchased separately, for HDR scanning, so you can create digital masters in wide dynamic range with more colors, textures and details than ever before! This allows you to meetthe growing demand for 4K HDR content on streaming services such as Netflix, Apple TV, HULU and others. The Cintel Scanner 2 is designed to work with the included DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio. What’s more, DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio adds new Revival tools for automatic dirt removal, dust extraction, correction with localized replacement using smart fill technology and advanced spatial and temporal noise reduction. The combination of Cintel Scanner 2 and DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio gives you everything you need to digitize, colorize, restore and master your film library for Ultra HD distribution with high dynamic range (HDR).
Designed to hang elegantly on your wall, the Cintel Scanner has been created using aeronautical design techniques for a firm, vibration-free center deck, so you get a smooth film treatment. The main chassis has a super-rigid structural frame, offering a considerably lighter and stronger body than simplistic heavy plate designs. This means that the Cintel Scanner is light enough to be mounted on the wall of your facility, blending into the environment of your colorization suite. As it’s super slim, it doesn’t get in your way and you only remember it when you need to use it. That’s when it comes to life and puts on a show! Whether on the wall or on a table, the innovative design includes sliding doors, integrated cleaning rollers and new digital servos to keep your film clean and ensure the subtle handling of precious negatives.
The Cintel Scanner is innovation in technology. Traditionally, film has been a mechanical technology, and film products suffered from poor quality electronic systems that required experienced engineers to keep them running. The new Cintel Scanner 2 has been designed with the latest image processing technology from Blackmagic Design and now includes PCIe and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, so you can connect it to your Mac, Windows or Linux computer and scan the film directly into your color correction system. This makes it extremely quick to set up and use, as well as eliminating the slowness of copying files after scanning. You get easy-to-install software updates that add new features in the future, which also means you can even upgrade your computer whenever you need to!
The Cintel Scanner is the world’s first real-time 4K film scanner to use Thunderbolt 3 and is super-easy to set up and install. The new high-intensity diffuse light source means that the Cintel Scanner runs at a stable speed in real time while maintaining smooth film handling and super-fast transfers. The Thunderbolt 3 connection offers a massive 40 Gb/s so you can transfer all that data directly to your computer without quality limitations. You can even switch computers simply by disconnecting the single Thunderbolt cable. In addition, there is an external PCIe interface for connecting to computers based on Windows and Linux systems that don’t have Thunderbolt 3. With the Cintel Scanner, you get the high resolution of a film scanner with the real-time utility of a traditional telecine!
The optional Audio and KeyKode Reader allows you to capture high-quality audio with the film’s KeyKode information. The reader includes a magnetic audio head and deep red LED illumination with advanced optics, electroformed slits and precision mechanical adjustments for azimuth, zenith and yaw offering the best possible audio capture with excellent high frequency response. The reader also includes a high-precision capstan and encoder that allows automatic correction of wow and tremolo modulation, enabling accurate sound pickup, even when the scanner speed is changed! The KeyKode Reader provides unique identification numbers for each frame, so they can be easily correlated with the corresponding video time code. Installation is easy, and all you need to do is screw the reader onto the front of the chassis and it will be detected automatically.
The Cintel Scanner includes super-bright RGB LED spherical lighting and an extremely sensitive imaging sensor. This means you get high-quality scans that are super sharp even when running at maximum real-time speed. The spherical RGB LED illumination ensures that your valuable film is never exposed to the unnecessary thermal stress and discoloration effects of traditional scanner lamps. In addition, Cintel’s patented spherical diffusion technology reduces the visibility of dust and scratches, always delivering beautiful scans.
The Cintel Scanner is easy to set up and install thanks to its Thunderbolt 3 and PCIe interfaces. Simply connect the scanner to your Mac or Windows workstation, install DaVinci Resolve Studio and start scanning! In other words, you don’t need a dedicated engineer to operate and service the scanner. The Cintel Scanner is designed to allow you to move freely between computers or even connect it to laptops to scan your film directly onto the computer that will use the content. The HDMI output is compatible with Ultra HD TVs for perfect precision focusing and film alignment using a local monitor. The Cintel Scanner 2 also features a new biphase and time code output for connecting external equipment such as audio trackers and more. The HDMI output can even be converted to SDI using the Blackmagic Mini Converter HDMI to SDI 4K, ideal for connecting to your system for client monitoring!
The Cintel Scanner is easy and intuitive. You get scanner control software that includes everything you need to capture and transfer movies to Ultra HD or HD files. The scanned files can also be opened with DaVinci Resolve for complementary colorization, restoration and mastering work.
