The Teranex Mini 8K HDR is an advanced 8K monitoring solution for televisions, video projectors and DisplayPort monitors with large screens. Unlike basic converters, the Teranex Mini 8K HDR can use third-party color analyzers to precisely align connected displays for accurate color. There are two on-screen scopes that can be selected from waveform monitoring, patterns, vectorscope and histogram. The Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K HDR is perfect for film studios and telecasters who need accurate, professional but also affordable color monitoring, while the Teranex Mini SDI to DisplayPort 8K HDR also works with the latest DisplayPort 8K monitors. You also get a sophisticated design with a color LCD for monitoring and controlling settings.
Advanced 8K monitoring
The Teranex Mini 8K HDR is designed for broadcast, live production or feature film work, where large-scale SDI monitoring with color accuracy is required. Perfect for precise monitoring with DaVinci Resolve, you can relieve CPU and GPU processing, as both models configure 3D LUTs and scopes. This is important when using heavy 8K formats. When using an Apple Pro Display XDR with the Teranex SDI to DisplayPort 8K HDR, you can even select your monitor’s built-in color profiles to match the gamut and color space to the SDI output for precise color handling. The Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K HDR is also excellent when using multi-view televisions with switchers, such as the ATEM Constellation 8K, so each view is wide enough for focus checking. You can even use quad division to assemble large video walls from multiple monitors. Imagine setting up giant 8K video walls in concerts and theaters!
Developed for Broadcasting and Post-Production
The innovative design is much better than that of ordinary converters, as you can rack-mount the converter if necessary. The front panel looks exquisite when installed on a table and includes buttons and a color screen for video monitoring with audio and video standard meters. The rear panel offers 12G SDI with quad link for HD, Ultra HD and up to 8K formats. The Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K HDR has four HDMI outputs, allowing the use of 8K televisions that have quad HDMI inputs. The Teranex Mini SDI to Display Port 8K HDR has a USB-C style connection for monitors such as the Apple Pro Display XDR, as well as two large Display Port connections for conventional computer monitors. The integrated resizer ensures that the input video standard matches the native resolution of the connected Display Port monitor. Alternatively, you can use the integrated pixel-by-pixel mode to view HD or 4K content without resizing. In addition, both models feature full down-conversion for using 8K sources on Ultra HD or HD televisions and monitors. To top it off, on both models you can convert between 2SI and Square Division, all automatically! There’s also AC power, HiFi analog audio output and a USB connection on the front panel for adding color analyzers to monitors.
Latest Technology HDR Support
The Teranex Mini 8K HDR has everything to satisfy the latest HDR workflows. Simply connect an HDMI display or DisplayPort monitor for HDR monitoring in SDI. The Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and PQ formats based on static metadata in VPID are operated in compliance with the ST2108-1, ST2084 and ST425 standards. Teranex Mini 8K HDR models process ST425, which defines two new bits in the VPID to indicate SDR, HLG or PQ transfer characteristics. The ST2108-1 standard, in turn, defines how to transport dynamic or static HDR metadata via SDI. There is support for ST2082-10 on 12G-SDI, as well as ST425 on 3G-SDI sources. Both the Rec.2020 and Rec.709 color spaces are supported, as well as 100% of the DCI-P3 format.
Integrated Real-Time Scopes
Two complete and independent screen scopes are included to facilitate compliance with broadcast standards for important high-level work. The scopes are superimposed on the screen, so you can customize position, size and opacity. You can select a variety of scope options, including waveform to display the luminance levels of your input signal. The vectorscope monitor lets you see color intensity at 100% of the SDI reference levels. There are also RGB and YUV pattern monitors which are ideal for color correction and checking illegal levels. The histogram displays the distribution of black and white details in your images and the clipping of highlights or shadows.
Advanced 33-point 3D LUTs
The Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K HDR and Teranex Mini SDI to DisplayPort 8K HDR feature the same high-quality 33-point 3D LUTs used in the film industry. The 3D LUTs are perfect for recreating the old style of film, or they can be used to compensate for the colorimetry of the connected monitor. You can even calibrate the connected display by connecting a third-party USB color analyzer. The Teranex Mini 8K HDR will analyze the monitor and generate a 3D LUT to correct color differences between the screens. Two independent 3D LUTs can be loaded and selected via the front panel. As 3D LUTs use standard file formats, you can load LUTs generated by software such as DaVinci Resolve.
Integrated Monitor Calibration
It’s always difficult to know if a monitor has the correct colors because all screens are slightly different, even between the same models! The Teranex Mini 8K HDR solves this problem because it can use a third-party USB analyzer to align compatible monitors automatically. SpectraCal C6, X-Rite i1 Display Pro or Klein K10-A analyzers are compatible and can be connected to the front of the converter. Simply start the process from the calibration menu and you’ll get instructions for setting the monitor’s brightness and contrast before the color calibration processing starts. The converter does all the work and will generate test signals on the monitor automatically during the calibration process!
12G-SDI Advanced for HD, Ultra HD and 8K
The four 12G-SDI inputs have outputs for looping with other equipment. In addition, the HD and Ultra HD single-link and 8K quad-link standards are supported, enabling use in the film or television industries. In 720p, you get support for 50p, 59.94p and even 60p. In 1080i formats, you get 50i, 59.94i up to 60i. 1080PsF and 2160p formats are supported from 23.98 to 60 fps. DCI 2K and 4K cinema formats are also supported from 23.98p to 60p. 8K 4320p formats are supported at 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 50, 59.94 up to 60p. With the integrated 2SI to Square Division conversion, an 8K source is automatically converted for the monitor. The Teranex Mini 8K HDR also operates 3G-SDI level A or B, in addition to SDI YUV and RGB formats.
Automatic down-conversion to HDMI
Although the Teranex Mini 8K HDR includes quad-link 12G-SDI when operating at 8K maximum resolution, it can also switch to HD, Ultra HD, DCI 2K and 4K formats when necessary. This means you can use it for much more than 8K! When a monitor, TV or HDMI video projector is connected, the Teranex Mini 8K HDR will communicate with the monitor via EDID and, if the monitor can’t handle the resolution, down-conversion will be done automatically for the display. This means you can use an HD or Ultra HD monitor for 8K or an HD monitor for Ultra HD! This way, you’ll always have the images on your monitor, regardless of the SDI standard.
Powerful LCD Control Menu
The front LCD control panel offers reliable and accurate monitoring for both the images and the audio level meters. There are menus for all the functions and it’s easy to navigate through the menu pages to find the settings that need to be changed. To enable 3D LUTs, simply press buttons 1 and 2. Calibration is also initiated via the menus and simply follow the instructions to calibrate your monitor. The audio meters can even be switched between VU or PPM ballistics. The HDMI Instant Lock feature can be enabled to ensure that your HDMI monitor locks instantly if the video input is interrupted. There are settings to configure the scopes, their positions or opacities on the screen. You can even view and edit your network settings.
Mac and PC software included
Although changing the settings from the menus on the converter’s front screen is convenient, you may often find the converter installed in a hard-to-reach place. In this case, the Teranex Mini 8K HDR includes Ethernet for remote access via the internet, or you can use the included software utility for Mac or Windows operating systems. This software even works via USB! The latest Teranex software utility can also update the converter programs, so you can upgrade to the latest features and video standards. You can even load and save LUTs remotely, as well as select and position the integrated scopes.
Prepare for the Future in 8K!
8K is fantastic for digital signage, as with a single clip you can control a single 8K monitor, four individual Ultra HD monitors or, with an additional converter, you can control up to 16 HD monitors for an extremely fascinating videowall display. DaVinci Resolve combined with DeckLink 8K Pro is extremely common in Hollywood film studios. Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K HDR is the perfect solution for operating large projectors and local displays with color accuracy, while Teranex Mini SDI to DisplayPort 8K HDR has been developed specifically to take advantage of the latest displays, such as Apple Pro Display XDR. The Teranex Mini 8K HDR is compatible with a wide variety of televisions and monitors. However, for the best color accuracy, monitors are the best option, as they have image processing that won’t alter the colors much once you’ve calibrated them.
Teranex MiniRack Shelf Optional
For rack mounting, simply add a Teranex Mini Rack Shelf. This rack shelf includes a metal tray that houses the converter and allows it to be threaded in before the entire shelf is screwed into the rack. The Teranex Mini Rack Shelf also includes blank panels that can be screwed into the shelf when you only want to mount a single converter and not be bothered by a gap in your installed equipment. Naturally, the Teranex Mini 8K HDR also includes rubberized feet that can be attached to the bottom of the converter, in case you want to place it on a table.
